Antique Single Panel Fireplace Screens

You can hardly get more "antique" than a coal or log fire. Wood fires especially go back to very ancient times. Later, of course, they were brought indoors as man started to build homes; along with the fires came chimneys, fireplaces and then all the tools and paraphernalia that you now associate with a real home fire. That paraphernalia includes fireplace screens, which once had only a practical use, but nowadays can be seen as a beautiful item of home decor to decorate the hearth.

The best way to find a true antique fireplace screen, of course, is to go to an antique shop, or two or three, as you search for the right screen to complement your room decor.
However, if you are content with reproduction antique screens, or even just screens that have a vintage look about them, then your task will be much easier. Specialist fire and accessory stores, and online fireplace specialists, are plentiful, and you should have a wonderful choice which may surprise you.
Two types of fireplace screens which are likely to have an antique look are those that feature stained glass and wrought iron work. The top picture, though, is iron, and although the outline design may not be traditional, the scrolls and other adornments do have an antique look, enhanced by the rust finish.
The middle picture is of a very sturdy looking gate design fireplace screen, which could almost pass as a gate or door to a gothic church. The antique gold finish adds to its antique lustre. An antique gold finish is also used on the final screen pictured, the Royal aluminum fireplace screen, whose ornamental scrolls has vintage appeal, even if made for today.
