Antique Style Fireplace Tools - Brushes,Tongs, Pokers and Shovels in Wrought iron or Copper
It does seem that most items to do with fireplaces can have a decor value as well as practical use. That, of course, includes the fireplace itself. A beautiful antique or modern fireplace, can be further adorned with a fireplace screen, andirons, fender and log rack. Something else you will need if you have a real fire, or for show if not, is a set of fireplace tools.
Luckily, it is also true that fireplace tools can have an appealing decor value too, especially if you are going for an antique look to your fireplace and hearth area. All fireplace tools have an ancient pedigree, so antique fireplace tools, or reproduction variations of the original antiques, are plentiful; and very stylish they can be too.
The basic fireside tools you will need for attending the hearth, fire and grate are tongs, brush, shovel and poker. The tongs you will need for picking up hot coals and pieces of log, whether in the grate or fallen onto the hearth.; the brush, for cleaning up ashes, the poker for stoking the fire to keep it from becoming too clogged to burn well; and the shovels for brushing ash and any other debris into before disposal.
The top picture shows a vintage set of fireplace tools in wrought iron, intended for wood stove use. The middle set of tools shown has a rust finish and is rustic in style with the spiral looped tool handles, and the last is another tool set in copper.
As you can see, these antique styles, in this case reproduction, have a lot of similarities. But between them, these fireside tools are all you will need to regularly attend your fire and hearth, while adding yet another decorous feature to your hearth and fireplace.
