Traditional Fireplace Screens and Fireguards To Keep the Home Fire Traditions Burning

When it comes to people's homes, you can hardly get more traditional than a roaring log or coal fire, large or small, beating out from a brick or stone fireplace. The fireplace became a focal point of a room originally due to its heat, and people huddled around to keep warm.

The old tradition lives on, only more often than not the fireplace is a focal point out of choice, not necessity. Even with central heating in most modern homes, millions still choose to latch onto the tradition of a fire and fireplace, sometimes a real fire with coal or logs.

The biggest accessory of all is the fireplace screen, so for you a traditional fireplace screen may be a must.

But what is a traditional fireplace screen? You could be forgiven for thinking that any fireplace screen is going to look traditional, just given its role. However, screens have evolved to meet modern home decor needs and certainly you will now find much more variety than 50 years ago.

You can argue, therefore, that "traditional" has varying degrees. The least traditional screen will have elements from the past, probably with a sleek modern design,, while the most traditional will be a genuine antique from a century or more ago.

Traditional styles, though, can fit well into any home, whether modern or period, even if they sometimes need some adaptation for a snug fit with surrounding decor. All the above pictures are of fireplace screens with strong traditional credentials, including the old fashioned fireguard in the last picture. Yet, they look modern too, and careful interior decor planning could see these types of screens enhancing the interior decor of a contemporary home.
